April 4, 2023: Bree Clarke, the founder and creative director of Iman + Co., is making a name for herself in the plant and flower industry. The Iman Project, Clarke’s lifestyle brand, centers around authenticity and connecting people while nourishing their roots. The brand features farmhouse tables and Bree Blooms, flower-arranging workshops that have become a safe space for people to discuss difficult topics like race. Clarke doesn’t shy away from discussing her troubled past, including homelessness and jail time, which inspired her to launch The Iman Project after feeling undervalued as a Black woman in the wedding industry.
Recently, Clarke opened a new shop, The Plant Project, in the Montrose Collective in Houston, which she describes as a place where people can grow together. The store features Plants and Proseco, a luxury trunk show with plants that Clarke takes to customers, providing them with plant tips and information while connecting and sharing with them. Clarke also has a program called WorkPlant, which brings plant experiences to offices that don’t allow working from home.
Clarke’s businesses have become increasingly popular, and she now travels between Dallas and Houston to run them. In Dallas, she opened The Plant Project, the city’s first Black woman-owned plant shop, and continues to focus on uncomfortable conversations through Bree Blooms. Clarke also recently organized a wellness retreat called Grow & Glow, where she spoke about her struggle with anxiety and depression.
Despite her success, Clarke faced attacks on her brand and was forced to step back for two years. However, she remains unashamed of her past and is now refocusing on her main brand, The Iman Project. With her workshops, trunk shows, and interior plantscaping services, Clarke aims to provide people with real experiences that will connect them to plants and one another.
